Ideas on flatwork/jumping exercises to do with my pony?

Add 10

I have a pony and were hire an arena and we’re running out of flatwotk and jumping excercises to do. If you have any, could you please let me know? Many thanks.

Weel as for flatwork- make cool shapes like serpentines and triangles (they can be kinda challenging because of the corners) do those in all the gaits. Also my trainer did this think were you trot along the long side of the arena- but ride about 5 ft away from the rail. ask your pony to move close by crossing her feet instead of just going headfirst! The final flatwork would be asking to pick up canter from a walk, trot, and standstill position. Then ask for an immediate halt from the canter, then an immediate walk from the canter. Transitions are alway good for you and you pony!
As for jumping- make the jumps different heights and make courses with sharp turns and random weird patterns. I know some of these are hard to understand. but I’m not the best explainer either. Good Luck and have fun! =D

  1. if you have cones, you can set them up in a cool shape, and then make up a pattern to ride. for example, sitting trot from cone 1 to cone 2, canter in a semi-circle to cone 3, halt, then back up 4 steps….

    patterns are really fun!

you must not judge the book by the cover they are great!! idc what level you are at and how much you and your horse know these will make you perfect every area of your riding with all kinds of exercises..

AND eventhough you do jumping (i do jumpers) this book of dressage sets the basics for jumping and even at goerge morris’s riding clinics he brings in top dressage trainers for most of the clinic to set the basic standards. hope i helped… i know i love them both!!

  6. well, these are all fun and entertaining for the pony, why not try:

    - weaving in and out of cones
    - Pirouettes
    - Neck – reining
    - Jumping different heights, angles and shapes around the arena
    - halt to trot
    - or halt to canter
    - small circles at C and A (in trot or canter)
    - backward reining

    There are lots more!

ooohh and my favourite!! Definatly do lots of bareback riding. i love jumping and galloping bareback – sure you might fall off but i never have becasue i trust my horse (and she is a gypsy cob so shes very wide!)

Dont know the breed of your pony so it might not be up to any of the things listed up there – so try and see for your self! Trust your horse, it knows what its doing!

Have fun! hope i helped! xxx
